Greetings!
This month, we feature two Directoire print
wallpapers by F. Schumacher and Company. Both papers
have been discontinued, and are available as a
special offer of $30 per single roll only to our
newsletter subscribers. We have limited quantities
of both papers. Both are packaged in 9 yd. double
roll bolts. The vertical repeat on both papers is
25.25”; the horizontal repeat and width are 27”.
These patterns do not appear on our website. They
appear only here, in the long-awaited Discount
Decorator newsletter, as a special reward to you for
waiting so patiently!
The Directoire style was a transitional style that
began in the later reign of Louis XVI in the 18th
century until the Empire style took hold in the
early 19th century. Directoire style (its name taken
from the French Directory of government
representatives after the Revolution) is marked by a
departure from the pre-Revolutionary penchant for a
style that favored decadence in materials and
patterns, to a more restrained aesthetic that
featured Greco-Roman themes and angular furniture

Revetement Mural
from F. Schumacher’s flagship Schumacher line
The second pattern, Revetement Mural, from F.
Schumacher’s flagship Schumacher line, takes the
large-scale of Josephine’s Directoire, and
translates it into a more sedate motif. The colors
here are a very liveable cranberry, Wedgwood blue,
and tan, with a sprinkling of moss green throughout,
all set on an off-white background; a color palette
that speaks to today’s tastes in furnishings. This
is a traditional paper for a traditional home that
highlights sophistication, rather than stuffiness.
Imagine it on your dining room walls or in your
entry hall, an understated but simultaneously grand
style statement.
