Going Carpet Crazy!
Hardwood floors are nice, but they can be, well,
hard. Wall to wall neutrals are fine, but after a
while, they can make a space look as dry as the
Sahara. And if you’re a paint person, sometimes you
just need a pattern to pull your whole palette
together. It’s situations like these when carpet
comes in handy. More functional than wallpaper, and
a style statement that makes an almost subconscious
impression, carpet can create a gathering area out
of a room’s corner, and unify furniture floating
around the living room. Many people are under the
mistaken impression that bare floors or an Oriental
area rug puts a stamp of authenticity on a Classical
interior, when in fact, hardwood floors were hidden
under wall-to-wall carpet until the late 19th
century, and Classical motifs were, up until the
1920s or so, preferred over Oriental rugs.
Discount Decorator specializes in 100% wool Wilton
Weave carpet by Langhorne Carpets. Wool means no
synthetic gases are released in your home (crucial
when carpeting a nursery), a material that cleans
beautifully, and one that looks and feels better
than synthetics. Langhorne is the oldest woven
carpet mill in continuous operation in the United
States. This company has restored and provided
reproduction carpet to such historic sites as
Philadelphia’s Independence Hall and Colonial
Williamsburg, weaves for Stark and Schumacher
carpets among others, and feature several chic
contemporary patterns along with their traditional
styles.
Langhorne’s carpeting, priced by the square yard, is
sold in 12’ widths (for example, a 9’ x 12’ area rug
would be purchased at 12 sq. yds.), which means you
can purchase them in any length. We can provide
wall-to-wall carpeting or area rugs, and can ship
your wall-to-wall order directly to your installer,
who will supply you with padding. With area rug
orders, you can choose your own color for binding
the edges, and we can supply padding for you.
